About Us
ALL ABOUT US!
Twenty-seven years ago, the Dixie School District leased the Oak View School to
us, until 8 years ago, when it was obtained by the Council of Marin Community Services.
They sold off various properties and continued to rent the remaining facilities to non-profit agencies and
to Oak View Nursery School.
The school was started by Olga Scharninghausen, who prior to Oak View, was
Director of the Marin Hills School of the Unitarian Church for many years, and
of the Jewish Community Center Pre-School before that. She has been active
in the Early Childhood field for over thirty years, serving terms as President,
Vice President and Secretary of Nursery School Associations, such as NAEYC,
Advisory Board of College of Marin, Human Services, Head Start, etc.
Olga, Marie, Irene and Debi were here when the doors opened twenty-seven
years ago in September of 1977 (after 5 years, Debi left for Crib Club and has
since returned as of January 2000!). Nancy came for part of her student
training twenty years ago, and we never let her get away. Sally has
been here twenty four years, Eileen walked in 12 years ago,
and then she stayed. Maureen, Cathy and Cheryl all had their children at Oakview and we just had to have them stay on as teachers.
. In between, we have had many wonderful teachers - Kathy, who after 23 years
moved to Manzanillo, Inger who has a winery in Calistoga, Cindy who has taken
time off with her new baby, Bernice, who moved back to England, Karen,
Kristin and others who also served at Oak View, became a part of our lives, and who will forever remain our friends.
